 Meet RUCO's Director

Stephen Ahearn was appointed as the director of the Residential Utility Consumer Office by Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano in January 2003.  Mr. Ahearn brings over twenty years of experience in both the private and public sectors to his position as the top utility watchdog for the state of Arizona.
 

Mr. Ahearn began his career in the private sector, holding numerous executive positions throughout the 1980's, primarily in the manufacturing sector.  He began his public sector career in 1990, joining the state   Department of Commerce Energy Office as the Manager of Planning and Policy. In 1998, he was recruited to the Arizona Corporation Commission as Executive Consultant, advising the agency leadership on deregulation   issues and representing the Commission before the state Legislature. In   late 1999, he left the Commission to run for the office of Corporation   Commissioner. In the period just prior to becoming Director of RUCO, he had established Ahearn & Associates, a general business planning and mediation firm.
 

Stephen earned a BA (International Relations) from Pomona College and an MBA (International Finance) from UCLA. A native Arizonan, he resides in downtown Phoenix.
